Fulton Elks Lodge #830 held it’s first annual Youth Day in 1952. 56 years later the Fulton Elks continued the tradition to honor America’s Junior Citizens for their accomplishments and to give fitting recognition of their service to the community, state and nation. A proclamation was received from Mayor Ronald L. Woodward, Sr. designating May 1st through May 8th 2008 as Elks Youth Week. This year events included the May Day King and Queens, amusement rides, Drug Awareness Booth, and bicycle giveaways for the local youths. |

On Saturday—May 3rd, 2008 during our May Day Youth event as part of the B.P.O.E. Fulton Lodge #830 Drug Awareness program Officer Lennet C. Whitmore, D.A.R.E. Officer from the Fulton Police Department was in attendance from 12—4 p.m. Officer Whitmore serves as the D.A.R.E. Officer in the Fulton School District. Officer Whitmore has been a member of the Fulton Police Department since 2005. She was recognized for being best in her police academy class in physical fitness. Before she joined the Fulton Police, Officer Whitmore served in the Military Police with the U.S. Army. During her service, she received “Soldier of the Month” and “Soldier of the Cycle” commendations. |

The Drug Awareness committee in conjunction with the D.A.R.E. program handed out informational packets regarding the B.P.O.E. Drug Awareness and D.A.R.E. The partnership between the Drug Awareness committee and the D.A.R.E. program was fantastic and brought about the discussion of child safety during this event. We hope to institute a program next year to include child safety. We hope to add fingerprinting, easy identification for locating missing children and setting up specific areas of contact when a child becomes separated from their parent.
Throughout the day members of the B.P.O.E. Drug Awareness committee also handed out stickers to the youth of the community and drug awareness packets to the parents. |
